Orchard Village New President & CEO: Susan Kaufman

Welcome Susan Kaufman! The Orchard Village Board of Directors announced that Susan Kaufman has accepted the position as Orchard Village’s President & CEO. Susan will be joining Orchard Village on February 10, 2020. Susan most recently worked for Bethesda Lutheran Communities as Vice President of Operations. Orchard Village Hosts 1st Annual Client Success Night

On October 10th, Orchard Village hosted its first Client Success Night! Members of the community joined us in celebrating our clients and staff, learning about all the great things we've been up to lately. We had multiple booths around the room for each program and department. Staff representatives from each program, paired with our client ambassadors, were able to brag about our new initiatives (like InnOVations and Abilities in Motion) and accomplishments (like Special Olympics). New at the Orchard Village Farm

Orchard Village is starting a new component of our urban farm: a CSA Membership program. A CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) program is essentially a share of our harvest. We are piloting this program to a few local businesses (Woodward, Inc. and Baird & Warner) for their employees to take part in. With a pre-season payment, customers purchase a share of our summer's harvest. They will receive a weekly box of our fresh, local, seasonal produce during the course of the 12-week harvest season, from mid June to early September. Activity Center Gets Accessible Doors

Clients Go for Gold at Special Olympics

Six Orchard Village clients participated in the State Special Olympics at Illinois State University in Bloomington/Normal in June after winning gold medals at the local Track and Field event in May. Alex got gold in the softball throw and Ira in the 800m run! Our clients train with their coaches for months and compete against their peers in regional and state competitions in their chosen sporting events. InnOVations celebrated its one year anniversary July 5, 2018. InnOVations is Orchard Village’s vocationally-focused skills building day program. Through both formal and informal training, participants obtain marketable vocational skills that match their goals, interests, and aptitudes, while increasing their employability for competitive jobs in the labor market. Niles West DECA Students Donate Time and Money

This fall, Orchard Village partnered with the Niles West DECA students of Niles Township High School District 219. DECA (Distributed Education Clubs of America) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe. New Activity Center Will House New Program

Orchard Village celebrated the opening of its new Activity Center on June 26th, with over 100 guests in attendance. Two dozen clients helped to break in the new 5200 sq. ft. multi-use building located at 7672 Marmora Ave., in Skokie, shooting hoops, playing games, and painting flower pots, prior to the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Employment First

Orchard Village is proud to have been selected as one of only a handful of organizations across Illinois to receive, through a competitive grant process, significant State funding to support individuals (specifically, those currently attending a day program or sheltered workshop) in their efforts to obtain community-based employment.
