Check out our Special Olympics basketball team, a diverse and dedicated group of athletes who have shown remarkable spirit and determination throughout their season!
The co-ed team, comprising ten players aged between 22 and 64, has demonstrated the power of sports to transcend barriers and foster a sense of community and empowerment. Under the guidance of coach Carly Bell, Therapeutic Recreation Manager, and the invaluable assistance of a devoted family volunteer, these athletes have not only improved their basketball skills but have also built lifelong friendships and confidence.
Orchard Village’s commitment to providing individuals with opportunities for growth and personal achievement is exemplified by the success of the basketball team. Participation in the Special Olympics has been a significant part of that journey, offering a platform for our athletes to shine both on and off the court.
“Through successful participation in recreational activities, individuals gain a sense of self-worth, confidence, and independence, which ultimately contributes to their quality of life and well-being,” states Carly Bell. “Every three-pointer scored, every defense played, and every cheer from the stands confirms the invaluable impact of inclusive sports.”
Orchard Village invites the community and media to celebrate the team’s achievements and to share in the joy of their success.
