Active Pursuits

Orchard Village’s Board of Directors and staff, in the continuing effort to provide the best possible services to our clients, have explored two new programs. We have decided to focus on two activities that research shows will have positive impact on the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities.

“Abilities in Motion” Recreation Therapy Program: We now have our own Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist on staff who leads enjoyable small group and individual activities such as games, exercise, art, music, literature, drama, dance, cooking and sports while helping clients develop the skills necessary for successful outcomes in their pursuit of a rounded, integrated and fulfilled life.

“InnOVations” Vocational Skills-Building Day Program: We now offer a very different type of vocationally focused “day program” for select clients capable of community employment but in need of appropriate, goal-driven and closely supervised job skill-building activities as a prerequisite to being hired.

We are also thrilled to announce that we have a new 5,200 sq. ft. Activity Center that includes a gymnasium, additional indoor and outdoor program space and a “teaching” commercial-style kitchen.

To-date, we have raised approximately two-thirds of the dollars needed to support the two new programs going forward. We are asking our friends in the community to help us complete our dream by supporting the “Active Pursuits” fundraising campaign.
