Orchard Village’s Board of Directors and staff, in the continuing effort to provide the best possible services to our clients, have explored potential new programs. In particular, in 2016 and beyond we have decided to focus on two activities that research shows will have positive impact on the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities.
Recreation Therapy: We will have our own Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist on staff who will lead enjoyable small group and individual activities such as games, exercise, art, music, literature, drama, dance, cooking and sports while helping clients develop the skills necessary for successful outcomes in their pursuit of a rounded, integrated and fulfilled life.
Vocational Skills-Building Day Program: We will offer a very different type of “day program” for select clients capable of community employment but in need of appropriate, goal-driven and closely supervised job skill-building activities as a prerequisite to being hired.
We are also thrilled to announce that we have broken ground on our new 5,200 sq. ft. Activity Center that includes a gymnasium, additional indoor and outdoor program space and a “teaching” commercial-style kitchen. This new facility, located on our Skokie campus and set to open in mid-2017, will significantly improve the lives of our clients by hosting the new daily recreation and vocational skills-building activities and events. To-date, we have raised approximately two-thirds of the dollars needed to finish the Activity Center. We also intend to establish a fund sufficient to support the two new programs going forward.
We are asking our friends in the community to help us complete our dream by supporting the “Active Pursuits” fundraising campaign.
